Fire Department

The Fire Department is a joint function of the City of Coopersville and Polkton Township.  The Fire Department fights fires, performs fire prevention activities, conducts arson investigation, containment of hazardous spills, emergency management coordination, inspections and plan reviews per code.

The Fire Department is also responsible for the issuance of Burn Permits. The City of Coopersville will issue a Permit in accordance with Chapter 1615 of the Codified Ordinances and applicant agrees to comply with the provisions of this ordinance, which includes, but is not limited to the following terms and conditions:

Open burning of leaves and grass clippings are PROHIBITED.

Open burning of trees, logs, brush and stumps is permitted.

    Flames shall not exceed 6 feet in height.

    Fire must be located at least 20 feet from the nearest building which is NOT on the same property.

    Fire must be located in the rear yard of the property, if applicable.

    Fire must be constantly attended and supervised by a competent person of at least 18 years of age.  Any person utilizing or maintaining an outdoor fire shall be responsible for all fire suppression costs and any other liability resulting from damage caused by the fire.
